Understanding University Grading Systems in Pakistan
Pakistani universities follow the Higher Education Commission (HEC)'s recommended grading framework, but each institution has the autonomy to adapt the scale to their own academic policies. This means that while most universities use a 4.0 CGPA scale with letter grades ranging from A+ to F, the exact marks-to-grade mappings, honors thresholds, probation policies, and course repetition rules can vary significantly from one institution to another.
Understanding your specific university's grading system is essential for:
- Accurately calculating your own CGPA
- Understanding whether you qualify for honors or the Dean's List
- Planning your academic strategy for the remaining semesters
- Interpreting your transcript for graduate school applications
- Accurately converting your CGPA to percentage for job applications
